AUTHOR
SIGNED FIRST EDITIONS IN MINT CONDITION
Over
a new capital city was built in the fledgling
Empire of Lan Na,
in modern northern Thailand,
250 years later it was buried by a great flood.
|
|
Now
the city is being uncovered by archaeologists and turned into the world's newest
archaeological park -
to join Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Angkor Wat, Machu Pichu, and many others around the globe.
"Ignored
by the world for too long, the 'Land of a Million Rice Fields' is resuming
its regional importance"
|
|

Wat
Khan Thom built by the city's founder -
King
Mengrai - in the AD 1280s |
This
first edition history and guide charts the civilisation that created the city,
details the history of it's rulers, armies, religions and peoples, and maps out
the warfare within Lan Na and against surrounding nations, including the Mongol
Chinese.
Special sections describe the pre-medieval peoples of the area.
Each of the excavated temples, and other buildings, have their own descriptive
sections with photographs or plan drawings.

|
As
described by a former British Consul to Chiangmai -
"This
book is much more than a guide of a virtually uncharted historical site, it
is a very brave venture into the legendary past of Lan Na ... Buddhism,
miracles, royal acts of merit and royal genealogies become inextricably
mixed with historical facts ... this is a first class guide and it is to be
hoped that the author will publish guides on other historical sites in the
Empire of Lan Na."
|
|
Fully illustrated in colour, and black &
white, with many maps and site plans
Still
the ONLY English-language guide available for this historical park.
