Wood
Carvings have a long history as traditional art and decor in South East
Asia.
Here
in Northern Thailand, woodcarvers have often drawn their inspiration
from both the real and the spiritual world, instilling both fun and
beauty into the works they create.
Naturally,
the woods themselves guide the use to which they are put, and the
craftsman's circumstances dictate the type of products they make.
For example, rural farmers long ago discovered that the off-cuts from
Mango and Rubber tree pruning were perfect for creating decorative, yet
practical and long lasting chopsticks.
