Clothing & Fabrics
In Cotton, Hemp, & Silk - 3 of nature's natural fibres
A beautiful range of traditionally made clothing and accessories from ethnic minorities and rural looms.
Northern Thailand's ethnic minorities, commonly known as the Hill Tribes, still pursue traditional clothing designs and patterns that are thousands of years old. Normally based upon hand woven hemp, they are now utilising coarse woven soft cotton fabric in addition to the older material. Their clothing is distinctive with its ornate cross-stitch and appliqué patch-work designs. Each ethnic group uses and retains its own design style, and these styles vary slightly from village to village within the group. The lowland villagers, mainly descendants of Chinese Tai immigrants of the 6th - 14th centuries AD, practise silk worm breeding, from which they spin the threads that are hand woven into the fabulous Thai designs that are often interwoven with threads of real gold. Again, each town or city has a unique design in the pattern, and each region has a distinct style in the clothing pattern. Click an image to see the range
