Thak
Baht Tham Boon is
one of the oldest of Buddhist traditions.
The
early morning act of making merit by donating food to the monks is an
act of devotion that encourages the good habits in life,
which
westerners associate with the old verse -
Early
to bed, early to rise,
Makes
a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
For
Buddhists, the wealth and wisdom earned from making merit is hoped for
in their next life,
not
the current one.
