Early Bird Tour

 5:30 – 7:00am

Thak Baht Tham Boon

ตักบาตรทำบุญ

Thak Baht Tham Boon is one of the oldest of Buddhist traditions.

The early morning act of making merit by donating food to the monks is an act of devotion that encourages the good habits in life,

which westerners associate with the old verse -

Early to bed, early to rise,

Makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

For Buddhists, the wealth and wisdom earned from making merit is hoped for in their next life,

not the current one.

City dwellers turn out daily to donate food

(note that shorts are not polite - please dress respectfully)

On your Early Bird tour -

You'll be collected from your hotel / guest house, then ...

Visit a fresh food market where you can buy food to offer to the monks.

Then go to the foot of Doi Suthep, outside Chiangmai University, to see monks walking barefoot in single file carrying their alms bowls.

Take part in merit making by offering food to the monks before returning to your hotel for breakfast.
