Hand-Batiked Mulberry Paper, Summer Patterns in Store

These beautiful papers, knows as “saa paper” in Thailand are the Swiss Army knife of paper-based handicrafts.
They are exceptionally versatile and available in a huge variation of weights, textures, colours, patterns, thicknesses, and stiffnesses. Available in multiples of five full size sheets (78×56 cm / 30.5×22 inches) they can be used for a multitude of paper crafts and home décor projects.

These hand-painted batik papers are smooth surfaced on the painted side with a slight canvas texturing on the reverse from the paper-making deckles. They have a nominal paper weight of 100gsm, but are much thicker than milled paper of the same weight rating.
The batik designs are all individually hand painted and there will be slight variations from sheet to sheet because of this. The colours are bright and vibrant, reflecting the summer theme, and initially available in four patterns (more to follow).
The current designs are (top to bottom) – grape bunches, butterflies and flowers, pink blossom, and smiling sunflower.
Possible handicrafting uses for these papers include -
- Cutting the batik images from the sheet to use as decoupage and card toppers.
- Scrapbook and school notebook covers.
- Box coverings and wrapping paper.
- Framed as wall pictures
- Use as greeting card covers and backing papers (they will cut to make 8, 7×5 inch greeting cards per full sheet).
And many more projects from lampshade covers to alcove back-panels, limited only by your imagination. The large, simple images on the sheets make them ideal for children’s bedroom decoration for example.
When shipping these papers, we roll them and protect them in a stiff box or tube (as available, and depending on the quantity in the order) rather than folding them. They will have a slight curl-memory when first unpacked, but leaving them laid flat with a weight at each end, will release that after a day or so (quicker in humid weather).
Because of the weight of the protective packaging, it may be uneconomical to order just a few sheets (the postage will look expensive), therefore we recommend rounding up a few friends and placing a larger collective order.
We are currently liaising with additional artists to obtain a guaranteed supply of additional patterns – one of the problems having been to communicate that the nature of selling on the internet requires designs be available for more than just one production batch. We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to regularly add extra designs and colour mixes over time.
